Heart #050 with triangles in 4 colours is easy to both cut and weave, although the final result looks rather complicated. The principle is that you first prepare the two heart parts from each two pieces in different colours and then weave the parts together like a simple heart with straight strips.
The heart is made from four pieces cut from the same template, but in four different colours – do remember to mirror half of the pieces though, if your paper has a different front and back.
There are six ways of weaving a heart from the parts you prepare. The result depends on how you turn the parts and how you start the weaving.
To prepare the heart’s parts you must “twirl” together two pieces strip by strip.
Place the two pieces you want to twirl next to each other. Turn the pieces so that the shape of one mirrors the other.
2)
Place one piece on top of the other. No holes must show.
Now you must twirl strip by strip. Lift up the strip in the upper layer (yellow), draw it to the right and place it behind the (blue) strip below. Use the notches closest to the heart blades in either end to make the strips shift.
Again lift up the upper (blue) layer, draw it to the right and place it behind the (yellow) strip below. Use the next pair of notches to make the strips shift.
Again lift up the upper (yellow) layer, draw it to the right and place it behind the (blue) strip below. Use the next pair of notches to make the strips shift.
Finally lift up the upper (blue) layer, draw it to the right and place it behind the (yellow) triangle below.
Continue twirling the 3 remaining sets of strips in the same way.
Twirl also the other two pieces.
Next thing is to weave the heart; however, you must take care to line up the pieces in a specific way to get the heart intended. This example is for heart a).
Fold the two heart parts along the short line of symmetry and place them as indicated.
Weave just like you would weave a basic heart with four straight strips. To get the correct pattern it is important, however, that you start in the right way. The first square you weave, i.e. the square between the heart’s blades must show a vertical line (yellow/blue) and NOT the horizontal line (red/blue). For weaving the last row of squares a pair of tweezers is a good help.
