The arms for the Cone with Triangles are made following the principle used for Heart #050 with Triangles. First you prepare two assemblies with 6 arms each from two pieces of different colour and then you weave the two assemblies together like you weave the simple Cone #001.
You have three different options for combining and weaving together the two parts. The outcome is rather different – compare the three cones at the photo above.
The three cones shown on the photo are all made from the same set of four main swirling pieces below.
Part 1 Part 2
Part 3 Part 4
Cut the following pieces in paper of quality 80 – 110 g/m2:
- 1 swirling piece with 6 arms “Part 1” in colour A (here it is dark red)
- 1 swirling piece with 6 arms “Part 2” in colour B (yellow)
- 1 swirling piece with 6 arms “Part 3” mirrored “Part 1” in colour C (orange)
- 1 swirling piece with 6 arms “Part 4” mirrored “Part2” in colour D (beige)
- 1 arched strip in colour A
- 1 arched strip in colour C
- 1 handle in colour A
- 1 handle in colour C.
Cone with vertical stripes
This tutorial is for the Cone with Triangles shown to the left on the photo.
Assembly 1
1. To prepare Assembly 1 the first thing to do is to “twirl” together the two pieces, Part 1 and Part 2. Here the pieces are in color A (dark red) and B (yellow). Place the two pieces next to each other, arms swirling in the same direction, and the cone section to the left as indicated.
2. Place Part 1 on top of Part 2. No holes must show along the arms.
3. Now you must twirl the arms one by one. Keep together the points of the two pieces with left hand’s thumb and forefinger. With your right hand lift up an arm from the piece behind (yellow) and place it in front of the other piece (dark red) using the first notch along the edges of the arms to make the colours shift while still maintaining the outer shape of the arm.
4. Again lift up the piece in the lower layer and place it in front of the other piece using the next notch along the edges to make the colours shift.
5. Continue twirling until all notches are used. Twirl all arms.
Assembly 2
6. Prepare Assembly 2 from the mirrored pieces Part 3 and part 4. Here the pieces are in color C (orange) and D (beige). Place the two pieces next to each other, arms swirling in the same direction, and the pointed section to the right as indicated.
7. Place Part 4 on top of Part 3. No holes must show along the arms.
8. Twirl the arms one by one.
9. Cut away the flap of Part 3 using the edge of Part 4 as ruler.
10. Place the point of Assembly 1 on top of the point of Assembly 2, arms swirling in opposite directions, and prepare the cone from the two assemblies in the same way as you would weave Cone #001. You need no mould for weaving, just consider that the stripes “must make a perfect fit”.
Cone with horizontal stripes
This tutorial is for the Cone with Triangles shown to the right on the photo above.
Assembly 3
11. First thing to do is to prepare Assembly 3 by “twirling” together the two different pieces, Part 3 and Part 4. Here the pieces are in color C (orange) and B (beige). Place the two pieces next to each other, arms swirling in the same direction, and the pointed section to the right.
12. Place Part 3 on top of Part 4. No holes must show along the arms.
13. Twirl the arms one by one as explained above.
Assembly 4
14. Prepare Assembly 4 from Part 1 and Part 2 in the same way. Here Part 2 (yellow) goes on top of Part 1 (dark red) and the pointed part is on the left hand side.
15. Cut away the flap of Part 1 using the edge of Part 2 as ruler.
16. Place the point of Assembly 3 on top of the point of Assembly 4, arms swirling in opposite directions, and prepare the cone from the two assemblies in the same way as you would weave Cone #001. You need no mould for weaving, just consider that the stripes “must make a perfect fit”.
Cone with large squares in four colours
This tutorial is for the Cone with Triangles shown in the center of the photo above.
Assembly 1
17. Prepare Assembly 1 as described in the section “Cone with vertical stripes” steps 1 to 5.
Assembly 3
18. Prepare Assembly 3 as described in the section “Cone with horizontal stripes” steps 11 to 13.
19. Turn the assembly and cut away the flap of Part 3 using the edge of Part 4 as ruler.
20. Place the point of Assembly 1 on top of the point of Assembly 3, arms swirling in opposite directions, and prepare the cone from the two assemblies in the same way as you would weave Cone #001. You need no mould for weaving, just consider that the stripes “must make a perfect fit”.
