Heart #052 is a variation of Heart #051 Triangles and Squares, designed to amplify a large checkered pattern. The heart is made from eight different colours.
The pattern occurs because the strips of Piece 1 and 3 (as well as Piece 2 and 4) are mixed. In that way the combination of stripes shown in all the small squares of the same piece will repeat and be the same.
Pieces for part 1
Piece 1 Piece 2 Piece 3 Piece 4
Each part is made from four slightly different pieces. For the heart’s Part 1 you need Piece 1 (dark red), Piece 2 (dark green), Piece 3 (light green), and Piece 4 (pink).
Twirling Part 1
Place Piece 1 on top of Piece 2 and twirl each strip individually. You twirl the strips by pulling the strip below (first step: dark green) gently to the right and placing it on top of the other (first step: dark red). Start aligning the strips near the blades and work towards the center line. Continue until all has been twirled like indicated.
Place Piece 3 (light green) behind the twirled Pieces 1 and 2 and twirl strip by strip.
Place Piece 4 (pink) behind the twirled Pieces 1, 2, and 3 and twirl strip by strip. Observe that it is not possible to twirl the first and third square from left in the row nearest to the heart’s blades. It is of no importance as these squares will be hidden when you weave the heart.
Pieces for Part 2
Piece 1 Piece 2 Piece 3 Piece 4
For the heart’s Part 2 you need the same shapes: Piece 1 (red), Piece 2 (green), Piece 3 (fair green), and Piece 4 (orange).
Twirling Part 2
Twirl also these four pieces starting with Pieces 1 and 2, and adding Piece 3 and Piece 4.
Weaving
Next thing is to weave the heart. Take care to line up the pieces correctly to obtain the pattern you plan.
Fold the two heart parts along the short line of symmetry and place them as indicated. To get the correct pattern it is important, however, that you start in the right way. The first square you weave, i.e. the square between the heart’s blades must show vertical lines (darker colours) and NOT the horizontal line (lighter colours).
Weave strip by strip just like you would weave a basic heart with four straight strips. For weaving the last row of squares a pair of tweezers is a good help. If the narrow strips entangle and turn impossible to weave wrap the strip you are inserting in a short piece of folded paper and upholster the inside of the other likewise.
Handle
Add two narrow handles in the colours you prefer.
